    This position supports the General Services Administration (GSA) CAMEO program. The Karsun team is responsible for the development, maintenance, and enhancement (DM&E) and operation of selected GSA Federal Acquisition IT Systems. All employees must be able to pass a Federal Suitability Check for a position of public trust. The GSA CAMEO program supports the operations of multiple business applications, as well as development of new applications across different technologies. The Karsun software development team is responsible for the software design and implementation of web applications supporting multiple Business Lines within GSA. Successful candidates are modern web development specialists experienced in translating business requirements into software architecture.  In addition to strong software development skills, ideal candidates have demonstrated experience in working on an Agile Scrum team. Position location is in Herndon, VA.

     

    Ideal candidate will be part of a multi-tenanted Data Platform engineering and technology team and will partner closely with a team of business analysts, data engineers and data scientists to conceptualize and realize validated solutions. S/he will work with senior architects to design, plan, and realize ‘as a service’ solutions for the Data Platform.

     

    S/he will provide technical direction to the development and operations team. S/he will work with different stakeholders to enable data ingest, preparation and data delivery and analytics & reporting services.  S/he brings a strong understanding of AWS data services, COTS and open source tools for delivering tightly integrated managed & shared data services.

     

    S/he brings extensive experience in working with structured and unstructured data and will enable design and delivery of training via workshops, tutorials and other channels to enable utilization of existing and new data services for tenant users. S/he will lead the estimation activities for new projects and will  assist in evaluating new technologies in the data domain along with senior architects

    Responsibilities

    • Provide architecture and technology leadership across the data lifecycle tools and services– ingest, prepare, analyze, archive, retire - utilizing AWS services and other COTS and open source tools
    • Developing and recommending novel and innovative -- approaches to solving business and technical problems in the data and analytics domain
    • Introducing, upgrading and managing services across traditional ETL, streaming data, traditional BI, analytics & ML
    • Providing support to leadership by building Proof of Concepts & Prototypes for validation
    • Bringing to bear clear understanding of ‘as a service’ operations for all commissioned and new tools and services within the data platform
    • Working with the developers, business analysts and subject matter experts to understand the complex technological systems in order to produce integrated end-to-end solution options
    • Making recommendations about platform and technology adoption, including database servers, application servers, libraries, and frameworks
    • Assisting project managers in setting schedules for new technology adoption
    • Driving operations efficiency through automaton, training for team members and enabling concise documentation
    • Support security operations via required technical and security architecture and control documents

    Qualifications

    Required Skills:

    • 10+ years of experience in IT Solution Delivery and architecture in data domain with extensive experience in Big Data
    • 5+ years of full-lifecycle application development experience
    • 3+ years of experience using Agile/Lean methodologies
    • Experience with AWS Redshift, and Pentaho Data Integrator/ETL tools
    • Experience with Hortonworks Data Platform and Hortonworks DataFlow
    • Strong experience in Linux environments with some scripting experience
    • Deep understanding of industry patterns for application architecture and integration
    • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical details
    • Ability to come up with a detailed architecture that includes infra, security, disaster recovery/BCP plans
    • BA or BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field

    Desired Skills:

    • Hortonworks Certified Hadoop System Administrator
    • Experience with AWS Data services such as Step functions, lambda, Glue
    • Experience in configuring and utilizing S3 effectively as a big data store for querying and analysis

    Qualifications (Education/Experience) :

    • Bachelor's degree with 10-12 years of experience, Master's degree preferred
